Gallstones

Cholelithiasis

Hard stones that form in the gallbladder. They can cause sharp pain in the upper-right tummy, often after fatty meals.

Concretions (cholesterol, pigment, or mixed) within the gallbladder. Often asymptomatic; may cause biliary colic, acute cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis, or gallstone pancreatitis.

Red flags — seek urgent help
  • Fever with RUQ pain (cholecystitis)
  • Jaundice
  • Charcot's triad (ascending cholangitis)
